A Yazidi woman, who was captured by the ISIS terror organization, has finally been rescued after spending more than a decade in captivity in Gaza. The woman, whose identity has not been released due to privacy concerns, had faced severe hardships during this traumatic period.
It was not immediately clear how she was brought to Gaza, or who orchestrated her liberation. However, she is now safe and undergoing necessary medical and psychological care to help recover from her ordeal.
Yazidis, a religious minority residing mostly in Northern Iraq, were targeted by ISIS in 2014 which led to a mass genocide. Thousands of women and girls were taken captive as sex slaves during this period. The woman’s rescue provides a glimmer of hope for the numerous Yazidi women who are still missing, and highlights the ongoing efforts for their liberation.
Efforts to support her after her rescue are currently underway. The international community, NGOs and government bodies are working to ensure her well-being and reintegrate her back into normal life.
The incident is a chilling reminder of the atrocities of ISIS against Yazidis and other minority communities. The global community continues to strive for justice and support for the survivors of these horrific acts.
