Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become an integral part of modern warfare and the United States has incredibly leveraged it in their operations, including dealing with the Taliban during their drawdown.
1. Data collection and analysis: The US used AI to gather and analyze an enormous amount of data, such as biometric data and communication metadata, to identify, locate, and track Taliban operatives. This helped in planning strategic operations, avoiding unnecessary confrontation, and minimizing casualties.
2. Predictive analytics: The advanced algorithms were used to predict potential attacks, represent enemy’s location and highlight patterns in insurgents’ behavior. This allowed them to be prepared for ambushes and plan their own attacks beforehand.
3. Drone technology: AI was also used in piloting unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) which were used for air strikes, surveillance, and reconnaissance purposes. Advanced AI and machine learning systems enabled these drones to fly autonomously, decrease human error, and increase efficiency.
4. Cybersecurity: AI tools have been deployed to safeguard digital platforms from breach by the Taliban or any other cyber warfare agents. This ensured smooth communication and protected vital data.
6. Automated defence systems: AI had been leveraged to deploy automated defence systems that could respond faster than human soldiers to immediate threats, thus providing security at outposts and bases.
7. Training: Finally, AI was used in the virtual training of soldiers, preparing them better for the real world battles. This significantly reduced risk and resulted in better decision-making during combats
