Microsoft announced a partnership with Talen Energy to support its green energy initiatives. As part of the deal, Microsoft will purchase assets of the decommissioned Three Mile Island nuclear power plant in Pennsylvania, and Talen Energy will build and operate a 1GW data-center campus onsite. This partnership supports Microsoft’s goal of reaching 100 percent renewable energy consumption for its data centers by 2025 and offsetting its carbon emissions by 2030. The location will be powered by a combination of solar, wind, and battery storage resources, substantially reducing the site’s carbon footprint.
